The progressively popular label built around British culture with music and film sharing an equally influential role amongst their design construction. Along with their title ‘The weekend Offender’ and reduced toned shots they do well to stir your imagination about the brand. It’s fair to say your imagination will also be guided by the somewhat cryptic captions from the likes of Anthony Burgess controversial novel ‘A clockwork orange’ and the infamous Kray twins from the east end gang The Firm. The concept of individuality married with success begins to surface once you ruminate over this lookbook and the new collections of clothing does this well.

‘Category A’ shirts (100% cotton) have been introduced with button down collars, cream branded buttons and front chest single pocket. Interestingly a number of light jackets (crew) are also featured within their new Spring/Summer collection, looking at our recent events of weather they may certainly be a fitting addition for you to venture along to the odd festival, night out or football match. These 3 times waxed cotton hooded jackets include a detachable hood with neck guard and adjustable drawcords. A nice addition to the jacket is a secret ‘stash’ pocket on back seam.

Last week, PAUSE introduced you into its guide to conquering the maze that is the smart-casual dresscode. This week, we begin to breakdown the dresscode, piece by piece. First up, should you always wear a shirt?

shirt2

The humble white shirt. A staple in any man’s wardrobe, it is the chameleon and jack of all trades. It’s a fail-safe option when dressing to the smart causal code. But are there any alternatives?

Option one: Add some colour

shirt

Shirts come in different colours, so it isn’t by force that you wear a white one. Plenty of high street stores produce shirts in every colour under the sun, so why not start experimenting? This can be terrifying, but here are some really simple rules to obey:

1. Make sure your colours compliment each other
2. Never wear more than three colours
3. Black and brown should never be worn together (no objections here, we’re right!)

Blue is a big colour trend at the moment, as seen at the Hermes and Burberry SS’13 shows. So try a bright blue shirt (above by H&M).

Option two: Substitute for a t-shirt

POCKETSQUARE2
No we have not lost our minds. It is possible to dress up t-shirt. After all, it is smart-casual. The easiest and best way to dress up a t-shirt is by putting on a well fitted blazer (not waistcoat) over it. Add a pocketsquare, and hey presto, that plain t-shirt that you went to the gym in last week is now has a main role in your ensemble. However, v-neck t-shirts should never be worn (leave the cleavage to the girls, please) and a printed tee with a blazer is never a good idea.

Option three: Substitute for a polo shirt

MENS POLO
This is a tricky look to pull off. People wearing polo shirts tucked into their chinos tend to look like they are going to a fancy dress party dressed as their Dad. On the other hand, if the event you’re attending is during the summer and in the afternoon, a polo shirt with a pair of smart shorts and boat shoes is a winning look. A tip here is to just stick with contrasting block colours if you’re just starting out.

A white shirt will forever remain as a fail-safe option when it comes to smart-casual. However, don’t be afraid to mix it up.
