London Collections: Men: YMC SS14

By June 18, 2013Fashion News

YMC or ‘You Must Create’ SS14 collection served up a casual aesthetic. Trousers were loose and rolled up much like their previous SS13 collection whilst blazers and shirts strayed from the fitted look, giving a sense of the ‘relaxed tailoring’ mentioned in their press release.

Colours were simple and cohesive as navy blue’s were teamed with lighter shades of greys, creating clean and minimal contrasts that gave a subtle whiff of modernity to the classic shapes. Understated was key to the collection, with less drastic change and more modern takes on the timeless; a clear contrast to the more daring collections from the likes of Astrid Andersen and J.W Anderson.

A more playful summer feel is also present with above-the -nee shorts, reminiscent of school uniforms and pops of bright azure on simple tones of grey and white; just enough detail for London’s sunnier days. Horizontal stripes, floral and even animal prints also appeared in the collection adding more present to the past with the timeless straight silhouettes.

All in all, YMC has stayed true to their ‘form follows function’ motto and delivered an easy, extremely ready-to-wear collection. Far from monotonous, it gives a relaxed, casual and simple breath of fresh air.
