MFW: Fendi Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection

Because who’s more inspiring than you?

balenciaga-mens-fall-2016-collection-01-550x800

The Fall 2016 lookbook is here and while it may scream of new creative director, Demna Gvasalia’s touch, the collection was actually conceived before his appointment. Looking back through the archives to founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga’s design relationship with Mona von Bismarck, the pieces and details are very contemporary with a retrospective nod. There’a lots of exaggeration with awkward cuts and lengths, getting us real excited for the brand’s first menswear show in Paris in June.

If there’s one key styling tip to take home from this lookbook it’s tucking. Whether a shearling aviator , zip-through hoodie or quilted puffa, tuck it on to your trousers. The collection celebrates co-ord looks in cosy winter textures, and earthy utilitarian tones, inspired by dirt-digging gardening gear.

PAUSE breaks down what you need in your accessories archive for SS16.

mens-neckerchiefs

It’s easy to accessorise in the colder seasons:  scarves, gloves, cosy beanies, layering…it gets trickier in the summer when you’re trying to spruce up your shorts and t-shirt ensemble.  Luckily, this season’s top accessories are versatile and non-fussy. SS16 is all about using accessories to dress more cohesively, so you don’t have to worry about overheating or over-doing your look.

Sockless days are over

Going sockless has been city essential over the last couple of years. Men everywhere were dashing between the boardroom and lunch meetings sans-socks. Yes, it gives a bohemian twist to your suit but we can’t imagine they smell great after the commute.

The days of compromising your best oxfords or loafers are over. Prada and Gucci have both featured socks and shoes – with short shorts no less – in their collections for 2016. Crazy patterned or colour clashing are a no, good quality plain dress socks, sports socks or basic geometric patterns are a must. Nothing too gimicky.

If you’re still going for the no-socks look it might be time to at least invest in some shoe-liners.

Socks n’ sandals

Hear us out. ‘Faux pax’ doesn’t apply here anymore. Everyone from Versace, Calvin Klein and high street favourites Zara have put this taboo front centre in their SS16 collections.

PAUSE is as surprised as you are, but the truth is this trend fits in well with the muted and minimalist theme of the season. Like we said earlier, plain is the key here. Give your Dad’s fashion choices credit where it’s due.

Baseball caps

Snapbacks have overstayed their welcome. New go-to headgear was long overdue.

Versace, Belmain and Calvin Klein have all experimented with this new street wear staple. Look for caps in choice materials like wool and leather, and un-embellished for the most part for a laid-back summer look.

Round shades

Sixties shades are re-appearing. Time to trade in your aviators for some Lennon style sunnies, particularly a set with flat lenses.

Backpacks for the boardroom

Hands and fuss free, you’re looking at the functional and fashionable ‘It’ bag of SS16.

The boardroom is the backpack you can feel confident about taking into the office. Polished and structured these bags have a business-class vibe leagues away from sagging rucksacks of seasons gone by.

Bandanna Neckerchiefs

How often does a trend come around that costs less than a tenner? Louis Vuitton and Hermes have brought the bandanna back.  The bandanna is an easy way to change your whole look without you building up a sweat. Knot it around the neck boy scout style for a nonchalant vibe.
