i-D Meets the Unstoppable Creative Youthquake of Shanghai

Introducing i-D magazine’s latest episode of their ongoing video series ‘Global Street Style’ which spotlights Shanghai’s hidden hub of artists, designers and musicians.

As part of a series that has previously visited Russia and Scotland, the latest instalment sees an emerging and evolving underground movement of young creatives in Shanghai actively seeking to penetrate the Great Firewall of China which blocks nearly all websites allowing creative content to be published.

Learn more about the world of the VPN-savvy, fashion-conscious groups thriving in an aesthetically driven crowd of funky electronic beats and style. The new film meets music and fashion collectives Asian Dope Boys and Genome 6.66 Mph with a unique street style blurring the boundaries between catwalk couture and cyberpunk. We also meet Joey and Yin, two designers who are flipping the Made In China label on its head by utilising access to factories to create their own clothing lines.

Take a look at the boundary breaking community for yourselves here.
