A new take on Americana.
Founder of the sportswear label Denim Tears, Tremaine Emory has joined forced with Champion to produce a collaborative capsule collection. The designer looks towards recontextualising classic American iconography through his brand and continues this narrative in this latest collection, titled “Champion Tears.”
Emory took inspiration from critically acclaimed Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and their movement for the clothing, which came full circle as Samantha Figgins & Yannick Lebrun from the theatre danced in a campaign video.
The collection includes Champion’s Emory’s take on classic items within Champion’s archive, such as the letterman jacket and collegiate sweatshirts and t-shirts. A colour scheme that the designer regularly uses, red, black and green feature heavily as a reference to the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) founded in the 1920s.
