Nike’s newest creative venture, titled .SWOOSH, is a platform dedicated to virtual creation by allowing their digital community to express their wide-ranging creativity, with this latest release seeing the 330,000 members come together to create the ‘Our Force 1 (OF1)’.
Building towards the future, Nike and their digital creative platform .SWOOSH are looking to capitalise on the growing digital landscape as they debut their first collection, featuring the ‘Our Force 1 (OF1)’. The OF1 pays tribute to the history of the Oregon-born brand and its first 50 years, channeling the indefinite creativity and versatility of the Air Force 1. Taking away the physical nature of the collection, this drop looks to instead build a community and extend the brand’s incorporation of modern, forward-thinking technology. Incorporating a sense of narrative to the digital journey of the OF1, the collection begins with a choice between two digital “boxes,” titled the Classic Remix box and the New Wave box. Each box is priced at $19.82 USD and contains an Our Force 1, putting forward a digital version of one of the most iconic Air Force 1s. Mixing the new with the old, n the Classic Remix box, .SWOOSH Members receive a shot at picking up a favourite classic archive AF1 released between 1982 and 2006. Alternatively, it could also be a more unique, custom AF1 with a nostalgic twist, whilst the New Wave box will see members unlock a classic archive from 2007 or later, or an expressive, custom Air F1 with a more futuristic take.
Getting into the process, Nike have provided multiple entry points of purchase for the .SWOOSH community. For instance, on April 18th Nike will start to airdrop AF1 posters — the unlock to buying an OF1 box — on SWOOSH.NIKE to randomly selected .SWOOSH members, when on May 8th, this group will be given first access to the OF1 sale. For the wider community, general access is set to open on May 10th. Following on, .SWOOSH members will be directly notified when they are permitted to open their OF1 box and discover which Our Force One shoe it contains, which will then be followed with a 3D file that the owner can download themselves and use to express themselves in their own way.
