Iconic British-American rapper MF DOOM, who unfortunately passed away back 2020, is the latest pop culture figure to take to the garments of Supreme, with the latter working with MF DOOM’s estate for the Fall 2023 season.
Born in 1971 and raised in Long Island, New York, MF DOOM was a jack of all trades who first started out in a graffiti crew known as KMD, (A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society), which then eventually merged into a rap trio collective made up of Zev Love X (MF DOOM), DJ Subroc (Dingilizwe) and Onyx the Birthstone Kid. After the critical acclaim of the group’s debut Mr. Hood (1991) album, it looked as though the only way was up for the group. Unfortunately, Dingilizwe was tragically killed in 1993, prompting MF DOOM – government name Daniel Dumile – to vanish from public life. Many years later, DOOM re-emerged at the Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe in Manhattan’s Lower East Side performing unannounced with a cover on his face, which subsequently became an iconic part of his look moving forward.
From Mm..Food (2004) to Madvillainy (2004), MF DOOM’s eclectic range of music has spanned decades and, as a result, he has become regarded as one of hip-hop’s best-ever musicians. For this new project between his estate and Supreme, the latter pay tribute to his legacy with a selection of signature brand garments, including t-shirts, hoodies, and beanie hats in shades of grey, black, green, purple and white, all of which boast MF DOOM-lead pictures and his iconic logo lettering.
The Supreme x MF DOOM collection will be available to shop on September 7th via the Supreme website.
