Paris-based label Casablanca are following up their multiple 2023 successes with a lively start to 2024, debuting a fully fledged Spring/Summer 2024 campaign, aptly titled ‘Day of Victory’.
Turning to West Africa for inspiration, this latest Casablanca campaign embodies the effervescent and positive aura of Nigeria as their ‘Day of Victory’ campaign looks to act as “a meeting-point between the imagination and philosophy of Casablanca and the vision of Nigeria.” Leaning into true fantasy for this effort, Charaf Tajer’s Casablanca look to “reinterpret a world, reimagine a history, and construct a series of images that represented this”, looking to Nigeria for its rich history as the heart of the Golden Age of African cinema in the mid-twentieth century and potently reimagining characters, gender roles, and histories.
Shot by highly-regarded photographer Jordan Hemingway, the SS24′ campaign imagery captures the cinematic opulence of Nigeria’s past, utilising vibrant colours – a staple design style of Casablanca garments – with Hemingway’s more dark and muted tones to form a contrasting and eye-catching array of images. In typically sexy style, Casablanca garments are put on full display, with racing-style jackets and shirts combining with mesh gradient dresses, zip-up track jackets, multi-textured polo shirts, eyewear, and more to form a cohesive and daring selection of looks.
