Tremaine in his Element.
Tremaine Emory’s Denim Tears have pushed the boundaries of fashion in recent times, and with this latest ‘Kiss My Grits’ collection for Spring/Summer 2024, the youthful outfit are set to push even further.
Laden with history, the 2019-founded Denim Tears have continually explored the Black diaspora in recent years, venturing into territory in which few brands are willing to go into. For the Spring/Summer 2024 season, it looks as though Emory’s undefined and industry-leading outfit continue to dive head first into layered narratives and rich historical backgrounds, with the humble watermelon fruit being seen across the collection, potentially nodding towards the ongoing situation in Palestine or the subversion of the fruit’s self-sufficient meaning during the racist Jim Crow era. Taking to social media to share the collection, Denim Tears debuted a plethora of wardrobe essentials as shirts, graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts, knitwear, shorts, trousers, and more are delicately designed with subtle hints at the brand’s rich design history. Some standout pieces include the aforementioned watermelon motif – which adorns a striking polo shirt – a Hand Painted Picnic Plaid Trucker jacket in red and white, a knitted green and white beanie hat, as well as a red Guts Leather Car Jacket. Lastly, a Comme des Garçons collaboration has also been confirmed, with leather goods being the joint area of choice as a Watermelon Print Leather Zip Pouch is given the co-designed treatment.
No release date has been set for Denim Tears’ SS24′ ‘Kiss My Grits’ collection as of yet, but stay tuned to PAUSE for more information.
