A Moment.
A$AP Rocky stormed the Paris Fashion Week scene with his creative collective AWGE, unveiling their debut menswear collection, “American Sabotage.” The Hôtel de Maisons, a historic Parisian landmark, served as the backdrop for this much-anticipated event, buzzing with excitement from a crowd that included Rihanna, Pusha T, and fashion heavyweights like JW Anderson.
The show itself blurred the lines between runway and performance, mirroring the collection’s themes. Staged “protesters” with signs reading “DON’T BE DUMB” – a potential nod to Rocky’s upcoming album – added a touch of theatricality outside the venue.
Soundtracked by three electrifying, unreleased tracks from the rappers upcoming album, the collection seamlessly fused artistic expression with social commentary. Footwear from PUMA and Ray-Ban eyewear were also unveiled on the night, solidifying established partnerships and adding a sleek, sporty touch to the overall aesthetic. Inside, Rocky, in collaboration with designers Joshua Jamal, Bede Marchand, and Coucou Bebe, presented over 30 unique looks, drawing inspiration from American counterculture and a rebellious spirit.
Bomber jackets emblazoned with the American bald eagle and flag – a bold, patriotic statement – hinted at Rocky’s roots. But this patriotism was twisted, a la Rocky. Uncle Sam, a symbol of American recruitment, got a makeover: two middle fingers raised and a defiant “F$CK YOU!” scrawled across his chest. This was Rocky’s America – a place where tradition is challenged, a place where streetwear can become high fashion.
Oversized silhouettes dominated the runway, mirroring the larger-than-life persona of Rocky himself. These weren’t just clothes; they were a dramatisation of New York street scenes, reinterpreted through the lens of high fashion.
