Creativity and craftsmanship come together to promote sustainability in LOEWE’s newest creation: the Flamenco Surplus bag. This summer-ready accessory features rippling stripes of color and a soft, sensuous shape, made from luxurious leftover leather repurposed by LOEWE’s artisans as a tribute to the natural world.
Continuing LOEWE’s Surplus Project, the Flamenco Surplus is fashioned from leather remnants of past collections. LOEWE’s skilled artisans cut and compress these leather pieces, then skive each panel to remove thin layers from the surface, revealing wavy layers of colour. These tactile layers resemble rock formations or topographical maps, inspired by nature’s timeless beauty.
Originally launched in the 1980s and redesigned by creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2015, the Flamenco bag is distinguished by the ‘Flamenco skirt’ effect, created when its coiled knots are pulled to cinch the bag closed. The bag’s flexible design allows it to be carried as a clutch, shoulder bag, or worn crossbody.
