The “Challengers” Effect.
Whilst fashion’s love affair with the world of tennis (and vice versa) is far from new, there has no doubt been an upturn in interest over this past few months, particularly coinciding with the release of the hit Zendaya-lead Hollywood blockbuster, Challengers (2024.) For their newest effort, Italian luxury fashion house Gucci have joined in on the forehanded fun.
Tapping into their vintage stylings and archival prints, the iconic Gucci are back to their usual best as they champion some of their fan favourite stylings in this newest capsule, including hits across several of their respective departments. For instance, the Tennis 1977 sneaker makes an appearance in the house’s typical white, green, and red colour scheme, with this signature palette keeping pace across a classic Gucci duffel bag – which comes adorned with an all-over embossed Gucci monogram design – as well as a backpack and some on-theme racket and shoe bags. Making sure to underline their affection for the rich 1970s tennis era, Gucci continue to lean into vintage styles as sporty polo shirts are matched with knitted piped cardigans, t-shirts, lightweight jackets, tank tops, pleated skirts, socks, caps and more, providing a plethora of goods for each and every tennis-loving fashionista.
