Including a stunning visual campaign with Zendaya.
Fashion and art collide once again as Louis Vuitton and celebrated Japanese artist Takashi Murakami unveil their highly anticipated new collection. This marks a momentous reunion, 20 years after their groundbreaking initial collaboration that revolutionised the fashion world.
Born in Tokyo in the 1960s, Takashi Murakami is renowned worldwide for his unique fusion of traditional Japanese art, sci-fi, anime, and whimsical kawaii characters. His work, often featuring repetitive motifs, seamlessly blends pop culture, history, and fine art across paintings, sculptures, and films. The iconic Louis Vuitton x Murakami collaboration in 2003, spearheaded by Marc Jacobs, saw the House’s legendary Monogram pattern reimagined for the first time, setting a precedent in fashion. This groundbreaking partnership is celebrated anew, with playful and profound works by Murakami gracing a diverse range of Louis Vuitton’s most celebrated women’s leather goods, accessories, and more, including iconic City Bags, silk scarves, sunglasses, jewellery, shoes, and perfumes.
Zendaya, the American actor, singer, and Louis Vuitton House Ambassador, takes centre stage in the accompanying Louis Vuitton x Murakami campaign. Captured by Inez and Vinoodh, the campaign showcases Zendaya’s playful spirit as she interacts with Takashi Murakami’s fantastical artworks, created exclusively for this re-edition. The vibrant images, set against a backdrop of iconic cityscapes, perfectly embody the modern energy of the collaboration.
The first installment, arriving on January 1st 2025, will feature a captivating blend of classic and contemporary. Beloved pieces from the original collaboration will be reintroduced, enhanced with modern digital technology. Think shimmering metallics, animations, and unexpected colourways. In March 2025, the brand will introduce Murakami’s enchanting “Cherry Blossom” pattern. This delicate floral motif —a nod to the artist’s fascination with Japanese tradition, will adorn a range of luxurious accessories and ready-to-wear pieces with a third installment to be unveiled later on in the year.
