Vans x FDMTL Join Forces on a New Collaborative OTW Sneaker

Celebrating Heritage and Classic Style.

OTW by Vans, the premium expression line from the iconic Californian skate brand, has once again joined forces with Japanese denim specialists FDMTL for their highly anticipated sixth collaboration. This latest partnership, which launched on May 30th, introduces a fresh take on two beloved Vans silhouettes: the Old Skool 36 and the Half Cab 33, reimagined with FDMTL’s signature artistry and a new innovative knit technology.

Known for their meticulous attention to detail and deep roots in traditional Japanese techniques, FDMTL brings its distinctive aesthetic to OTW by Vans for the first time. The collaboration showcases a sophisticated interpretation of “sashiko,” the traditional Japanese decorative reinforcement stitching, which is rendered through Vans’ cutting-edge Engineered Knit technology across the uppers of both sneakers. This innovative approach allows for the intricate patterns of sashiko to be replicated with precision, offering a unique textural depth without relying on conventional denim fabrication.

The Old Skool 36 and Half Cab 33 in this collection feature a blend of “Citadel” blue and “Marshmallow” hues, a classic indigo and off-white palette that is synonymous with FDMTL’s heritage. Subtle co-branding elements are present, with OTW by Vans branding on the heel and co-branding on the sockliner. Notably, the Half Cab 33 also sports a distinct FDMTL-branded woven hang flag at the lateral, adding a premium touch.

FDMTL, founded in 2005 by Gaku Tsuyoshi, has built a global reputation for its uncompromising craftsmanship, particularly in Japanese-made denim. Their philosophy of creating “products that grow on you the more you wear them” resonates deeply with Vans’ own design quality and style.
