More Than A Craft.
JW Anderson and British heritage brand Wedgwood have partnered with the estate of renowned potter Lucie Rie to finally produce a collection of designs that have been hidden for decades.
In 1964, Lucie Rie, celebrated for her distinctive “sgraffito” technique and elegantly functional designs, created a series of teacups and saucers for Wedgwood that were, for unknown reasons, never produced. Now, over 60 years later, these unreleased pieces are being brought to life for the very first time.
The collection includes a teacup and saucer, along with a coffee cup and saucer, crafted from Wedgwood’s signature Jasperware in the iconic Jasper blue with intricate white inlays. Each piece is meticulously shaped and finished by hand, staying true to Rie’s own reverence for craftsmanship.
In addition to Rie’s designs, the collection features a series of mugs inspired by 5th-century Greek mugs from Jonathan Anderson’s personal collection. These pieces showcase a striking two-tone aesthetic in colour pairings like Blue/Saxon Blue and Chocolate Brown/Black.
Proceeds from the collaboration will go directly to the newly established Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving and digitizing the archives of both artists. The foundation will also provide grants to support future academic and creative scholarships.
You can buy the collection online or in select stores in the UK, China, Japan, and the US starting September 19th.
