This December, South African designer and LVMH Prize winner Thebe Magugu steps into a new realm with his first venture into luxury hospitality. In partnership with Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, Magugu will unveil the Thebe Magugu Suite and Magugu House Cape Town, blending his Afro-modernist aesthetic with the historic setting of one of the city’s most celebrated landmarks.
The collaboration introduces Belmond’s first Designer Residence concept, positioning the hotel as a platform for contemporary African design voices. For Magugu, whose work has been recognised by international titles such as Vogue and The New York Times, the project reflects his ongoing exploration of culture, heritage, and storytelling through design.
By embedding his vision within Mount Nelson, Magugu not only extends his practice beyond fashion but also contributes to an evolving dialogue between global luxury and African creativity. Take a look below.
