Bringing together craftsmenship with distinct aesthetics and attention to detail, global fashion retailer UNIQLO has announced its first-ever collaboration with NEEDLES, the cult Japanese brand founded by Keizo Shimizu of NEPENTHES.
The collection bridges together the idea of LifeWear, UNIQLO’s philosophy of uncomplicated and functional design, with NEEDLES’ interpretation of vintage-inspired silhouettes and subcultural coolness. “As soon as we began discussing the project, I was excited to incorporate NEEDLES’ iconic butterfly motif with relaxed tailoring cues into UNIQLO’s fleece,” said Shimizu. “The end result is garments that feel familiar yet new.”
It consists of three central pieces that combine NEEDLES’ understated sophistication with UNIQLO’s versatility for everyday use. The Fleece Full-Zip Jacket is an oversized, relaxed fit created in 70s-inspired colour blocking. The Oversized Cardigan is available in solid colours and stripes, a subtle nod to NEEDLES’ signature track style. And lastly, the Fleece Wide Pants feature clean side stripes in a tone-on-tone fabric. Available in black, grey, beige, and purple, the collection presents truly minimalist, genderless pieces that illustrate both the streetwear-influenced aesthetic of today and contemporary simplicity.
