What Are Dreams?
Bottega Veneta has unveiled its latest artistic endeavour – a short film and accompanying photo series titled: “What are Dreams?”
This project serves as a reunion for the brand, pairing ambassador and current “it-boy” Jacob Elordi under the lens of photographer Duane Michals.
The setting for this intimate exploration seems to be remarkably personal, as it was shot in Michals’ own residence in New York City. The resulting collection features a series of evocative, black and white portraits designed to plunge the viewer into the “unconscious, imaginary and uncanny.” Drawing heavy influence from Surrealism, the 12 still images feature Elordi amidst “mysterious” staging, employing poetic props and motifs that pay homage to Surrealist masters like Giorgio de Chirico and Réné Magritte, key inspirations for Michals.
The short film component, however, delves deeper…capturing Elordi reciting Michals’ own poem titled, “What are Dreams,” an excerpt originally featured in his 2001 book “Questions without Answers”.
