Ornaments in Motion.
ASICS SportStyle and London’s own Completedworks are going next level with a collaboration that reframes the sneaker as a sculptural object. Marking the jewelry label’s first-ever foray into footwear, the project deconstructs the early-2000s GEL-KAYANO 20 as part of the “Crafts for Mind” initiative. It’s a total subversion of the Y2K runner; the duo has stripped back the technical grit to make room for something that challeges the expectations of all the sneaker-lovers.
For this drop, the GEL-KAYANO 20 goes all in with textures and trinkets, ditching basic mesh for a chaotic, beautiful mix of mismatched gems, pearlescent bows, and floral motifs handcrafted in their London studio. Coming in both black and white, the three designs play with the tension between movement and stillness, injecting a heavy dose of “jewelery-core” into the heavy-duty running silhouette. The collection hits Completedworks.com and Dover Street Market London on February 21st, right after the show.
