PAUSE Visits: MOXY Lower East Side

A Downtown Address, Designed for Living Not Just Staying!

New York is a city that moves fast and expects you to keep up. It’s bold, loud and constantly evolving, where culture, nightlife and creativity are constantly colliding. From the world’s most sought after food scene and underground music culture to independent galleries and iconic landmarks, the energy is relentless in the best way, and there is truly no other city like it. Downtown Manhattan, in particular, captures that spirit, and nowhere does it quite like the Lower East Side. Once gritty and rebellious, now redefined as one of the city’s most dynamic districts, it’s a place where history and newness sit side by side.

Right on the corner of Bowery and Broome sits Moxy Lower East Side NYC, a 303 room property that leans fully into the neighbourhood’s spirit. Opened in 2022, the hotel positions itself as an eclectic, design led “pleasure garden”, drawing inspiration from the area’s heritage as a hub for entertainment and cultural exchange. Interiors by Michaelis Boyd and Rockwell Group layer references from old New York theatre and nightlife with a more contemporary, playful touch. The space that feels immersive from the moment you walk in, less a traditional hotel and more a social playground.

The location places you at the intersection of SoHo, Nolita, Chinatown and the East Village, with Tribeca and the Financial District also within easy reach. It’s ideal for those looking to explore multiple sides of the city without relying too heavily on transport.

Rooms & suites

Rooms at Moxy Lower East Side are compact, as expected in New York, but cleverly executed. Sizes range from around 165 to 195 sq ft, with a variety of options including Kings, Double Doubles and even Quad bunk rooms, alongside the Factory Loft suite, which opens up to 546 sq ft with a private terrace.

Design wise, spaces feel bold and playful, taking references from circus and menagerie themes tied to the Bowery’s past. Expect smart layouts with pegboard storage systems, fold away furniture and integrated smart tech that keeps everything functional and practical. Rooms feature floor to

ceiling windows which look out onto city views, which is always a great touch to any New York stay, while bathrooms lean design led with rain showers, terrazzo floors and statement details. It’s compact living, but done with thoughtfulness and personality.

Drinking & Dining

Drinking and dining is central to the Moxy experience, and the core of the hotel’s social setting for both in-house guests and city locals. The hotel brings together four distinct venues under one roof, all created in collaboration with Tao Group Hospitality.

There’s Sake No Hana, a modern Japanese restaurant serving elevated izakaya style dishes, alongside Silver Lining, a piano lounge that leans more intimate with live music and curated cocktails throughout the week. The Fix, located on the hotel’s

ground floor, shifts from a café and co-working space by day into a more social bar setting by night. The Highlight Room offers a rooftop setting with skyline views that stretch from the Empire State Building to downtown, as well as cocktails and small plates.

It’s a layered approach that means you rarely need to leave the building, whether you’re starting the night or staying out late.

More Than Just a Stay

Moxy Lower East Side builds its appeal around experience. There’s over 13,000 square feet of flexible event and social space, co working areas and a steady rotation of cultural programming, from DJ sets to fitness sessions, with Loosie’s adding to the mix as the hotel’s late night, subterranean nightclub. The hotel is also well equipped for longer stays or blended travel, with a 24 hour gym, fast WiFi and thoughtful extras like Solé bikes for exploring the city. Service is informal but efficient, matching the overall tone of the property. The overall experience is a true reflection of the neighbourhood, fresh, upbeat and social, appealing to travellers who want energy, design and a strong sense of lifestyle without the rigidity of a more traditional stay. Moxy Lower East Side feels less like a hotel and more like a micro version of downtown New York. Fast moving, slightly chaotic in the best way, and full of character.

A special thank you to Elizabeth and to the lovely staff for the hospitality!
