Dr Martens X Oki-Ni

By February 2, 2013Fashion News, Sneakers

Juxtaposition; colliding two polarising ideas together head on. That is the aesthetic of designer, Kris Van Assche. He favours pairing premium design quality with modern, contemporary street wear in a way that is refreshing and clean. The Multi Lace Sneaker clearly doesn’t play by the rules and offers a futuristic, yet understated look for a customer that doesn’t want leopard print mixed with hot pink or infra-red shoes that clamour for attention. Instead, this is for someone accustomed with the avant-garde, a trend setter who casts their net beyond the popular brands and seeks out something that’s a little different and pulls it off in a way you never could.

Billionaire Boys Club has been a firm favourite with the style savvy for years. It’s certain that, at some point, we’ve either all had a pair of Icecream/Bape sneakers or wished we were as cool as Pharrell. Last year, Pharrell and Mark McNairy dived into a creative partnership and in 2013 we have well and truly been blessed with the fruits of their labour in the form of the Bee Line Spring/Summer ’13 lookbook.

The lookbook illustrates that the quirky elements of BBC are still prominent, but the influence of McNairy can be seen in the form of clean silhouettes, easily accessible and wearable staple pieces.  Hints of preppy shirts, chinos and jackets collide with motes of streetwear t-shirts in a way that doesn’t come across as illogical, but instead resonates with the tones and trends of the season. There are still pops of fun with the injection of polka dots, the ever-present varsity jacket and the recent collaboration with Timberland on an exclusive boot colourway.

The collection will be available soon via the official Billionaire Boys Club online store.

Premium stockist, oki-ni has collaborated with Dr. Martens to produce a rework of their sought after Monkey Boot. The result is exciting and fresh, with oki-ni opting to upholster the shoe in a luxurious hair-on leather finish and edit the classic Monkey Boot silhouette. Continuing in the traditional vein of Dr Martens boots, the Monkey Boot features the standard PVC sole and the ever-present  Goodyear welt.

The brand has seen a steady rise in popularity recently, but oki-ni have remained faithful to the timeless aesthetic of the boot, whilst offering a welcome addition to a unique piece of footwear. Available in navy blue and oxblood, the contrast of the hair-on leather provides a distinctive polish that is sure to have Dr Martens fans excited.

Made in England from 100% leather. Retail at £295.00 available from oki-ni.
