PAUSE EATS: Sakagura

By September 7, 2018Lifestyle, Restaurant

Tucked away behind the rush of Regent Street lies the vibrant, yet tranquil Sakagura; a beautifully designed Japanese steak and sake bar with authentic interiors and an extensive menu to complement.

Created by Tak Tokumine the contemporary bar/izakaya is perfect for traditional Japanese eating, a few drinks or even getting stuck in and grilling your own food. Fusing contemporary dining and the nation’s culture, it’s a unique foodie experience in the heart of Mayfair.

Opting to try their Yakiniku menu, we were given a selection of foods to choose from ranging from Japanese sirloin to crispy asparagus or scallops alongside a DIY style charcoal BBQ allowing us to cook each to our own liking. While this menu is designed with groups in mind, a plus one is more than sufficient as we experienced.

Alongside more traditional fare, Sakagura also offers a lunch and dinner menu full of tasty starters, sushi, mains and desserts that cater to those who seek a more conventional dining experience. When it comes to dessert, notable options include their sake infused sponge and dark chocolate wasabi and yuzushu sorbet, perpetuating the consistent Asian menu.

Complementing the food options on available, their bar is stocked full of an expansive selection of Japanese sake and a second to none selection of rum, vodka and whiskey. For those looking for something a little lighter, they also offer a range of fine wine and expertly curated cocktails.

Unique in its offering, Sakagura injects a flavour of Japan into its surroundings on Heddon Street, from the food and unique dining options to the optimum choice of sake cocktails, it’s a surefire central retreat that’ll undoubtedly enter your Rolodex of restaurants.
