As a result of Ye's numerous controversial antics
While it seemed like Ye would stay away from the controversy and become a real supporter in the fashion industry following his attendance at Burberry and Givenchy’s recent shows as well as opening for Balenciaga’s ‘Mud show’, his crowd-splitting Yeezy Season 9 show brought a lot of negative noise against the American rapper and designer with his “White Lives Matter” t-shirt.
This motif created an uproar in the industry that saw many of his own supporters turn against him despite trying to explain his reasoning on the Republican News outlet Fox News. To make matters worse, he proceeded to hop onto Instagram to comment on the numerous people that voiced his opinion on his controversial antics, getting him restricted on the social media platform.
Because of all these questionable actions, many brands have started to distance themselves from the ‘DONDA’ artist, including Supreme’s Tremaine Emory, GAP and now, Balenciaga. The Spanish heritage brand quietly started doing so by removing all imagery featuring Ye from Vogue Runway as well as removing all YEEZY GAP ENGINEERED BY BALENCIAGA from all retailers globally. Now, it has been confirmed by Balenciaga’s parent company Kering to WWD that “Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”
