Don’t Call it a Comeback.
Nike is gearing up to release the Air Max Sunder later this fall, formerly known as the Air Sunder Max.
Designed and released to mass markets in 1999, the Air Sunder Max fused retro styling with modern athleisure. The silhouette laid dormant for years, apart from a collaboration with Commes des Garcon HOMME PLUS in 2021 which applied a trendy full zip-up on a triple black upper, triple white, and a combination of the two. Now, the shoe is reborn under a new moniker, dropping a full black colourway along with a bumblebee-esque colour scheme named Deep Ocean, Gold, and Deep Yellow. The same zip-up body from the CDG collab is utilised on this release, paired with a neoprene upper and textured side panels with small holes. An etched Nike swoosh is placed right beside the zip-up system and a small air logo is written out on the toe. The same sole unit as the original is chosen on this pair, ushering in previous design cues.
The Nike Air Max Sunder is set to drop at some point in the fall and will retail for $180 USD.
