PAUSE Highlights: 5 Copenhagen-Based Brands You Should Know About

Scandinavian Euphoria.

Earlier this season, we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the heart of Scandinavian fashion during Fashion Week, where numerous talents showcased their unique visions through eye-catching collections. However, taking a step back to appreciate what’s unfolding beyond the media spotlight is crucial for truly understanding the emerging talent that’s taking over Copenhagen.

Here are five fashion brands and designers that you need to check out.

(DI)VISION

If you were one of those, gasping at the front row of (DI)VISION’s show, you already know what we’re talking about. Founded in 2018 by Simon Wick, (DI)VISION has become a standout in the Copenhagen fashion scene, known for its performative fashion shows and groundbreaking approach to sustainable fashion. The brand was born out of a simple but revolutionary idea: create something new from what already exists. With zero sewing experience, Wick began his journey by fusing two differently coloured bomber jackets with a zipper, creating the now-iconic Split Bomber Jacket.
This initial creation sparked a movement within the brand that prioritises upcycling and repurposing. (DI)VISION focuses on crafting garments from dead-stock, recycled fabrics, vintage goods, and overstock, giving new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded. The brand’s raw, messy aesthetic has captivated audiences, and their Copenhagen Fashion Week debut for Spring/Summer 2022 marked the beginning of a series of boundary-pushing presentations.

Berner Kühl

Founded in Copenhagen in 2019, Berner Kühl is a menswear brand that seeks to educate the next generation of consumers on the value of well-made products. The brand is driven by a commitment to sustainability and thoughtful craftsmanship, aiming to redefine the codes of an industry in constant flux. By embracing a slower, more deliberate approach to fashion, Berner Kühl creates timeless pieces that resonate with utility, nature, and serenity. Their collections are built to last, offering wardrobe staples designed to be worn for years rather than just one season.

STAMM

STAMM is the perfect brand that embodies the spirit of “Scandinavian Globetrotting,” blending energy, empowerment, and expression into every creation. The brand is known for its dualistic approach, balancing contrasts like strong versus sensitive, high fashion versus low key, and truck versus couture. This multi-layered and complex design process results in dimensional and organic shapes that offer various ways of gender-fluid styling. STAMM’s collections are a journey into forward-thinking fashion, embracing the idea of exchange and pushing the boundaries of traditional style with their unique and innovative approach.

Henrik Vibskov

If you’ve ever been captivated by the immersive worlds Henrik Vibskov creates, then you’re already familiar with the distinct allure of his multidisciplinary brand. Vibskov’s work is celebrated for its advanced silhouettes and seamless crossover into other art forms, including installations, scenography, costumes, video, and performance. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2001, Vibskov has produced over 40 collections, consistently blurring the lines between fashion and art, which has solidified his status as a standout figure in the industry. His most recent collection, presented last week at Copenhagen Fashion Week, offers just a small glimpse of why he’s taking over the fashion scene.

Baum und Pferdgarten

If you’re on the lookout for fashion brands that effortlessly blend timeless design with a bold, unexpected twist, Baum und Pferdgarten should be on your radar. Founded in Copenhagen in 1999 by creative duo Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave, this label has established itself as a leader in Danish fashion. With collections that consistently feature beautiful materials, striking prints, and vibrant colors, Baum und Pferdgarten is known for its unique design identity that merges the timeless with the exclusive and unexpected.
Their latest collection, “Office Olympics,” showcased at Østerbro Stadium during Copenhagen Fashion Week, is a perfect example of their trendy approach. The collection featured all the hallmarks of Baum’s signature style, from tailored jackets to bold prints, and even included the ever-popular no-pants trend with teeny tiny shorts.
