Kim Jones, the acclaimed British menswear designer, has announced his departure from Dior Men after seven years at the helm. His tenure, marked by both critical and commercial success, has seen him redefine the landscape of men’s fashion, blending haute couture techniques with streetwear.
Jones joined Dior in 2018, bringing with him a wealth of experience from previous roles at Louis Vuitton and other high-profile brands. He quickly made his mark, infusing the classic Dior aesthetic with a modern sensibility that resonated with a new generation of consumers. His collections were characterised by their impeccable tailoring, luxurious fabrics, and unexpected collaborations with artists and designers, ranging from KAWS and Hajime Sorayama to more recently, rapper Travis Scott.
Under Jones’ leadership, Dior Men experienced significant growth, expanding its global reach and solidifying its position as a leading force in menswear. His designs were not only visually stunning but also commercially viable, appealing to a broad spectrum of customers while maintaining the brand’s exclusivity and heritage.
Jones’s last show for Dior, which took place during Paris Fashion Week, this January was nothing short of spectacular. Striping back the maximalist Dior Men’s brand he created over the years, to present a more refined and minimalist collection, he drew inspiration from Monsieur Dior’s iconic “H Line,” originally featured in his Fall 1954 haute couture collection. Each look was designed to create the illusion of a lengthened silhouette, and the collection’s signature “H” shape was most evident in the double-breasted formal wear, where the garments themselves were structured to resemble the letter “H.”
While the news of Jones’ departure may come as a surprise to some, it also marks the end of an era for Dior Men. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the direction of the brand for years to come. As we all eagerly await the announcement of his successor, one thing is certain: Kim Jones has left an indelible mark on Dior and the menswear landscape as a whole.
