Are we entering a new chapter?
“Demystification,” “normal-core,” “lo-fi imagery”… whatever you want to call the phenomena of high-fashion brands & figures peeling back the curtain, it’s no doubt been a mainstay in the industry for a while now.
As the world as a whole becomes more fast-paced with the nature of social media, it’s become increasingly important for high-fashion houses & creators to make a distinguishable impression online, & what better way to do that than rolling with the times. Moving with the laidback & lo-fi tide of posting on Instagram these days, fashion is taking various different approaches to build communities through a more casual approach to their media & runway shows.
Whether it’s Miu Miu letting their top client walk down the FW24 runway, @ly.as getting BTS shots & lo-fi iPhone 4s celebrity selfies, & Lacoste featuring an authentic New York taxi driver in its new campaign to LOEWE’s process videos & Cole Palmer showing Burberry how he makes his tea, there’s a clear, more “normalised” direction in which everything is going.
What do you think? Do you think high-fashion will continue to thrive on normalising breaking down those previously secretive barriers?
