Bottega Veneta Unveils Star-Studded “Craft Is Our Language” Campaign

Bottega Veneta has finally unveiled their new campaign, ‘Craft is our Language,’ which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the house’s iconic Intrecciato leather weave. This marks a significant moment, being the first campaign under the creative direction of Louise Trotter. Photographed by Jack Davison and choreographed by Lenio Kaklea, the campaign champions Bottega Veneta’s dedication to handcraft and creativity, viewing the Intrecciato not just as a technique, but as a metaphor for interconnectedness and collaboration. The campaign features a diverse cast of Bottega Veneta artisans and notable figures from various fields, including Tyler the Creator, Dave Free, Jack Antonoff, Dario Argento, Julianne Moore, Zadie Smith and more, all captured through hand gestures that were previously spotted on the streets.

The campaign further explores the rich history of Intrecciato, which was first introduced in 1975 and involves the meticulous hand-weaving of slender leather strips. ‘Craft is our Language’ also pays homage to Italian heritage, drawing inspiration from Milanese artist Bruno Munari’s 1963 handbook of Italian gestures.

The campaign will be accompanied by a book in September, featuring additional talent and 50 gestures that form a “dictionary” of Bottega Veneta’s unique language, craft, and values, reinforcing the brand’s no-logo philosophy through the sheer artistry of its iconic weave.
