BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE Opens Its First U.S. Flagship Store in Soho, New York

Innovation at its Best.

The highly anticipated BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE flagship store has officially opened its doors today at 126 Prince Street in New York City’s vibrant SoHo neighborhood. This marks a significant milestone for the brand, as it is their first standalone retail location outside Asia and serves as a key indicator of their ongoing global expansion.

The 513-square-foot boutique, situated at the intersection of Prince and Wooster Streets, offers a captivating immersion into the world of BAO BAO. Designed by Japanese studio Moment, the interior draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese “irori” or sunken hearth – a communal space for gathering and connection. This concept is beautifully translated into a prominent ceiling-mounted light fixture that acts as a central focal point, inviting visitors to congregate around the brand’s iconic geometric bags and accessories.

The store’s minimalist aesthetic, featuring plaster-finished walls and a custom hammered aluminum table, complements the tactile and structural nature of BAO BAO’s designs. The space is carefully curated to showcase the full range of the brand’s unique bags, known for their innovative construction of triangular pieces that allow them to transform from flat to three-dimensional forms.

To commemorate this landmark opening, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE has launched an exclusive “Lucent Love” capsule collection, available only at the SoHo flagship. This limited-edition series features monochromatic red bags, including totes, crossbody bags, and pouches. Special promotional visuals for the collection depict the signature Lucent bag ingeniously folded into the shape of a red heart, symbolising the brand’s heartfelt welcome to New York City.
