The eclectic streetwear brand Hype is now going to be available at a Topman store near you soon.

After a solid few weeks being stocked in Topman Oxford Circus, Hype was excited to announce that they are now going to be available in five more locations across the UK.

Catch your bright prints, eye-catching designs and extravagantly patterned beanies, sweatshirts, t-shirts and hats at White City Westfield London, Queen St Cardiff, Lakeside Essex, Arndale Manchester and Eldon SQ Newcastle.

Thomas Codd London’s new line is fresh and inspiring, a style we are all familiar with but done with a twist so as soon as we see it, we can envision ourselves wearing it. Here at PAUSE, we ask Thomas Codd some questions to help us better understand the brand and the new collection!

Thomas, what was the inspiration behind this line? It’s really exciting and different to other styles we’ve seen lately.

What inspired me for this line is what inspired me in my graduate collection at university and what inspires me to dress this way. My style is subcultures, predominantly British like MOD and Skinhead. I do not follow trends or forecast them, I could not tell you whenLondon fashion week is nor do I aspire to show at there but I have created a label where all the designs are of similar style and cut. It’s my branding. My signature. I wanted to create my own niche and be something new for menswear, an avenue away from high end.”

Describe the line in three words.
“Nostalgic, arrogant and charismatic.”

Why is Thomas Codd different from the other menswear brands around at the moment, what’s the unique selling point?

“The unique selling point is our incredibly good and fair price range that sits above Topman and below Allsaints for example. It offers a totally different style genre and look to any other label, with new ideas of cut and fabric use and treatment, the outcome is unique. Affordable and unique, so anyone can stand out and be their own man. I sit on my own, doing my own thing, some products sail along and some have that mix of commercialism that gets the masses looking, but either response I’m happy and proud to have a line that reflects me.”

How did the company come about?

“It was always my ambition when setting my heart on fashion to have my own label and that steered me to do a course at university in design but as I matured and become realistic, my thoughts levelled out. Once I graduated, I got an internship at Allsaints. I did 4 days, 3 of which I spent sewing buttons on shirts from 9am to 11pm and one I spent making up cardboard boxes! This switched me into action and pushed me to get working on getting my graduate collection in shops. I wanted Tom Codd to become Thomas Codd London and it happened automatically! I walked out of Allsaints and opposite was Behave boutique, where I set up a buyers meeting and the rest is history. But the hard work continues every minute of the day.”

With menswear evolving and growing so much recently, help our readers find out about the Thomas Codd style. What kind of guy would be wearing your clothes?

“My signature looks and finishes are tartan and denim bleach and now I use them in trimmings and linings. My customers were typically the more brave, cool kid or fashion designer/students. But this is not me and while those pieces are still on sale and still sell really well, the brand in its 2 years has matured so much from that and become more commercial. The introduction of printed tees and vests broke the Ibizahouse market in 2010 and once I had this group of fashion daring lads on side, they delved into other pieces on the line. Now the same lads are wearing their printed vest with a denim bleach shirt unbuttoned, so the different ends of the collection are meeting and Thomas Codd London has now opened up its shop door to every male fashion consumer, we are not for just any one male, gentleman or geezer.”

Finally, imagine you had a crystal ball and could see 5 years from now… where is Thomas Codd?

“Thomas Codd London will have its own shop, be sold on ASOS promoted from markeptlace, and a Womenswear line would be in place as I have so many requests to do so I think it would be rude not to. I would love to be stocked in Selfridges as this is retail heaven for me and it would be so satisfying to be sold as a designer in a place where I once stood staring at great brands hoping to be on their par.”

The Spring/Summer collection from Bench is making us even more excited to get into some warm weather! Featuring the two most hotly tipped trends for this summer, this collection showcases loads of navy and heavy prints. Navy and heavy prints are definitely gonna be big and with Bench already being miles ahead, we were right to expect big things from them.

Some of our personal favourites include this cargo shirt, which is not only a timeless and classic print, but also goes great with so many other things in the collection.
