Visible stitching, garment deconstruction and playing with both the under, and over-sized spectrum of clothing made for a quintessentially nameless Margiela collection.
This season we had weighty oversized overcoats, a quilted leather bomber and some serious leather outwear. The real stars, however, came in the shape of ethereal-esque thread visible tailoring and seemingly silk scarf infused separates which featured flashes of a fox motif that would have had any 80s/90s kid reminiscing of the adorable ‘animals of farthing wood’.
Much like a Comme des Garcons womenswear show, when heading to a Maison Margiela show, you go with your conceptual hat firmly fixed on your head. But that’s where half the mystery is, with only a sprinkling of seemingly wearable pieces, Margiela’s SS17′ show was no exception. Of course, we don’t quite know who’s behind the entire collection either – which only adds flame to the alluring fire of mystery.
