Jean-Paul Goude puts the ‘show’ in fashion show.
Last night saw dancers, beatboxers, whistlers and musicians take to the runway for director Jean-Paul Goude’s spectacle of a fashion show for the upcoming KENZO x H&M collection. The show took place at Pier 36 in New York and was set to a soundtrack of a remixed “Express Yourself” by Sam Spiegel and was wrapped up with a surprise performance from Ice Cube.
“Tonight was a celebration of everything we love about KENZO x H&M – it was a fun, vibrant and unexpected celebratory mix of different worlds coming together. It was a show we will never forget,” said Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Creative Directors of KENZO.
But whist the show looked to be a lot of fun, and yes it did reflect the wild theme of the clothing, many are citing that the collection may not sell well in comparison to previous H&M collabs. Was all that razzmatazz and showiness in fact a much-needed mask for the clothes to hide behind? We at PAUSE are left wondering whether that ‘feast-for-the-eyes’ show was just a clever marketing ploy to amp up the anticipation and get people excited about the collection again.

The KENZO x H&M collection will be available from 3rd November in over 250 H&M stores worldwide, as well as online.
