Balenciaga reaches new levels of Normcore with their Fall/Winter 17 campaign.
Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 17 ‘Berncore’ collection was released today. The collection is based on the use of American presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ supporters as muses. Demna Gvasalia has been fond of this type of design since the early days of Vetements and here at PAUSE we are excited with the expansion of this concept into the Balenciaga brand.
Gvasalia bases his designs around what he sees on the streets and it’s for this reason that his collections are highly sought after in the street style scene. The F/W 17 designs provide an interesting social commentary on America at the moment and the young professionals who supported Sanders campaign.
Yet, aside from the concepts behind the collection, the styling throughout the looks is what makes Balenciaga exactly what it has become since Gvasalia’s takeover, a surreal look at our own society. Superstylist Lotta Volkova provides us with normcore layering ideas for the coming fall season, and we at PAUSE expect to see the use of hoodies under crew-necks/shirts and t-shirts as a mainstay on the street style scene this coming fall/winter season so start thinking on it!
Balenciaga’s new season collection is now available on their website and from select retailers.
