'Share A Coke' ... It's Back!

In case you missed the news, Coca-Cola unveiled the return of their iconic ‘Share a Coke’ campaign and this time, it’s set to be even bigger and better. Global Vice President of Creative Strategy Islam Eldessouky officially announced the relaunch of the nostalgic ‘Share A Coke’ campaign earlier this month at an exclusive event held for VIP global guests in Mexico City, along with the campaign’s new video ad and impressive details on what the powerhouse has planned for the rollout this time around.

So, What is 'Share A Coke'?

The initial 2011 global campaign proved to be a massive success for the mega-brand, launching across 70 countries and taking the concept of personalisation to new heights. It was the first marketing movement of its kind, with consumers rummaging through store refrigerators eagerly in search of their names which replaced the famous Coca-Cola logo in an attempt to share their findings with family and friends. With the new 2025 iteration of the iconic campaign, Islam revealed that this relaunch will offer consumers so much more with a particular focus on Gen-Z who’ll be experiencing what he referred to as a “Platform” for the very first time.

What can be expected from the 'Share a Coke' relaunch?

The ‘Share a Coke’ fundamentals are based on connectivity and creating memorable experiences through the “magic of sharing”. The new re-imagined launch holds the exact principles but is designed to connect Gen-Z through a digital interactive experience in hopes of encouraging more sociable and personal interactions. We’ve seen Coca-Cola implement numerous new-tech strategies into their marketing campaigns over the years, with Gen-Z being the targeted demo’ of this relaunch, consumers can expect techy fun features, such as the ‘Share a Coke’ digital experience where personalised bottles can be purchased through a QR digital customisation feature, as well as the ‘Memory Maker’ for creating and sharing personalised content and memes.

We spoke exclusively with Islam Eldessouky, and were keen to know how after over a decade since the initial launch, how he felt Gen-Z would receive the campaign:

“This is a generation that expands on things, you give them tools and they just redefine and play with them…this generation communicates in so many ways, give them the tools and see how it grows. Creativity has been super democratised but I think Gen-Z will take it and expand it in beautiful ways”
