Inside Malta’s Most Stylish Hotel: Where Contemporary Luxury Meets Mediterranean Soul

Malta may be a tiny island, but it has a remarkably big story. Set in the heart of the Mediterranean between Sicily and North Africa, it has quickly become one of Europe’s fastest-growing holiday destinations, drawing visitors from all over the world who want to indulge in new experiences, relax on sun-soaked beaches and create unforgettable memories. With a population of just under 550,000 and ranking as the tenth smallest country in the world, it’s a compact archipelago with an incredibly rich history.
This fascinating island has seen it all — its story stretching back more than 7,000 years, leaving traces that have shaped the island into what it is today. From ancient Roman ruins and Arab influences to Norman architecture and Phoenician heritage, and with more than 365 churches, it’s a country filled with culture, character and charm. Aside from its endless opportunities for discovery, Valletta — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the island’s capital — remains one of Malta’s main attractions. Add in the delicious Maltese cuisine, friendly locals, and the endless picturesque moments that fill each city, it’s easy to see why Malta remains a go-to hotspot year after year.
Today, history is only part of Malta’s appeal. Beyond its ancient walls, forts and cobbled backstreets, the island has evolved into a place where tradition meets modern living — a vibrant mix of contemporary art spaces, boutique shopping and a thriving hospitality scene. At the forefront of that scene is ME Malta — a hotel that captures both the island’s timeless heritage and its bold, modern spirit.
ME Malta is one of the latest additions to the renowned Meliá Hotels International portfolio and its stylish “ME by Meliá” brand, opening its doors in November of last year as part of the historic Mercury Towers development. The launch marked the brand’s official debut in Malta and a significant step in its global expansion. Rising 20 floors above the coastal town of St Julian’s, it’s more than just a hotel — it’s a landmark and a destination in itself, bringing together architectural innovation, cultural connection and luxury hospitality, with the island as its backdrop.
ME Malta also stands as the second collaboration between Meliá and the late Zaha Hadid, following the success of ME Dubai. The Mercury Tower itself — one of two twisting towers — is a masterpiece of contemporary design, unmistakably a Hadid creation with its futuristic form, standing as a monument within the town. And inside, it is unmistakably ME — true to the brand’s distinctive aesthetic and stylistic approach, the design and interiors capture the essence of Malta’s heritage, cultural roots and local artistry amongst its contemporary and luxurious flair.
Architecture, Rooms & Suites:
There are 113 guest rooms and 27 suites, each designed in a modern Mediterranean style that balances natural tones, clean lines and soft textures. Rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed, with the Always ME Rooms measuring 375 sq ft, through to the Ultimate ME Penthouse Suite — a grand 2,152 sq ft retreat featuring three bedrooms, a living and dining area and pool table.
Standout room features include freestanding bathtubs, vanities, smart technology, a Maxibar, and floor-to-ceiling windows with private balconies that frame panoramic sea views. Thoughtful design details and amenities across all room categories create spaces that feel both luxurious and bespoke.
The second Mercury Tower also features 35 residential apartments as part of ME Malta, offering the same high-end hospitality experience with all the comforts of a private home.
Dining & Drinking:
ME Malta offers a variety of dining experiences, perfect for in-house guests who prefer to stay in for exceptional food, or for visitors seeking new and exciting dining options. The Cabana Club Malta, located on the eighth floor, is a rooftop poolside beach club described as a Mediterranean oasis, the ideal spot for sunbathing, cocktails and music. Luciano by Gino D’Acampo serves a modern take on classic Italian cuisine, while the ever-popular Radio Rooftop offers innovative Japanese dishes paired with 360-degree views of the city and sea, perfect for evening dining and soaking up Malta’s stunning skyline.

Dee Spa:
For those looking to slow down, reset and unwind, Dee Spa offers a true sanctuary of well-being. The highly anticipated spa officially opened its doors in September, becoming the newest location in the Dee Spa portfolio. Tucked beneath the Mercury Towers — once a telecommunications bunker — it has been created in partnership with ME Malta as part of the hotel’s ongoing expansion. Featuring saunas, steam rooms, a heated pool and a range of speciality treatments, including the exclusive Wine Spa Ritual, it’s a dedicated haven designed to rejuvenate both body and mind.

“Meliá remains one of my absolute favourite and most trusted hospitality groups when it comes to selecting and recommending hotels, and ME Malta is a true testament to why. While I’m very familiar with the ME by Meliá brand, each location continues to surprise me, offering an amazing yet truly unique experience every single time. I Loved ME Malta — an absolutely stunning hotel and possibly my favourite of the brand that I’ve visited so far. This is exactly what I expect from a five-star hotel: the attention to detail, the service, the food, and the comfort — every element of my stay was a 10/10. Not many hotels leave a lingering impression on me after departure, but this was definitely one of them. Highly recommended.” – Taija-Leorelle (Head of Travel & Hospitality)
A special Thank You to Georgia and the team a Fox Communications, Valentina, and the amazing staff at the ME Malta for the outstanding hospitality.
