Ottolinger Gets Its Hands on the Desigual Archive

Desigual and Ottolinger have made things official. The two brands have launched Desigual designed by Ottolinger, a limited-edition collection that sees founders Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient get their hands on the Desigual archive. But the relationship actually goes back further. For years, the duo sourced vintage Desigual on the second-hand market, taking garments apart and rebuilding them through Ottolinger’s own deconstructed lens.

For the collaboration, Bösch and Gadient headed to Desigual’s Barcelona archive to select deadstock, choosing pieces for their colour, print and fabric before dismantling and piecing them back together in new ways. Neither brand’s DNA gets lost in the process. Desigual’s bold oranges, reds and greens collide with Ottolinger’s darker browns, blacks and burgundy, while patchwork, exposed zips and visible finishes run across the collection.

Sculptural dresses, tiny boleros and mesh trousers make up the line-up, with plenty of Ottolinger-style experimentation in the mix. Some pieces take the archive concept even further, including a floor-length dress reconstructed from eight pairs of Desigual trousers, with just five made worldwide.
