From the early 2000s.
Acne Studios is tapping into fashion history for its latest collaboration, teaming up with British-Cypriot designer Hussein Chalayan for a capsule that revisits some of his most influential work from the early 2000s. Known for his conceptual approach to design, where fashion intersects with technology, transformation and experimental construction, Chalayan’s vision gets a new perspective through the lens of Acne Studios creative director Jonny Johansson. Drawing inspiration from seminal collections including Ventriloquy (2001), Medea (2002) and Manifest Destiny (2003), the 12-piece lineup reworks the designer’s signature codes through denim, jersey and leather, blending archival references with the Swedish label’s contemporary DNA.
Expect patchworked denim, twisted silhouettes, trompe l’oeil python prints and asymmetrical pieces that revisit Chalayan’s distinctive approach to construction, alongside a reimagined Camero handbag and collaborative slogan tees. The release is accompanied by a campaign shot at London’s V&A East Storehouse, where Chalayan’s designs sit alongside pieces from the museum’s archive, as well as a limited-edition book, Reference: Hussein Chalayan, exploring his lasting influence on fashion and design. With just 1,000 copies available, the publication extends the collaboration beyond clothing, celebrating the ideas, experimentation and creative legacy that continue to shape fashion today.
