Stage Style: Wireless 2013 Day 2

Featuring a press release that contained a series of seemingly random words such as ‘offline’, ‘blogsphere’, ‘light’, and ‘caring’, it was quite hard to decipher what Xander Zhou’s latest offering would be about.

Xander Zhou’s SS14 collection stuck to the major trend of Spring/Summer 2014 – monochrome. Black, white, and grey was used heavily throughout the collection. Jackets were a big focus in this collection, in black, white and camel, with oversize collars that overlapped the lapels. Although they were not explicitly smart jackets, the structure and cut of them makes the wearer instantly more refined. Zhou also created printed jackets, with photographs and artwork. This possibly where the ‘blogsphere’ comes in, as the artwork is typical of sites such as Tumblr.

Away from jackets, blazers were another prominent feature. Single and double-breasted, most had sleeves longer in length than normal, this is a take on the blazer that will be interesting to see if it becomes a trend. Another trend that is big news in Spring/Summer 2014 is PVC, and Zhou’s collection had PVC vests in mustard tones. Where colour was used, it was in soft shades of pink and egg-shell blue, but restricted by cut outs of black and white. Xander Zhou seems to have also taken on the cummerbund and made it more relaxed and casual. This was seen paired with shorts and vests in matching colours.

The press release for Xander Zhou’s SS14 collection ends with him saying ‘what matters is that you share what you like’. This was apt, as what Zhou shared with us we will no doubt be embracing wholeheartedly.

This week at PAUSE we’ve been looking at the unique style of Black Eyed Peas front man, producer and Coach on BBC’s The Voice Mr. Will.I.Am.

Back when the Black Eyed Peas first rose to mainstream prominence with their 2003 hit Where is the Love,  Will’s style had a notably Caribbean/preppy influence and wasn’t much of a trendsetter within the fashion world. Fast forward to mid 2009 and the Peas were back with a new sound and rather futuristic image. Will was looking very different, his dreads he’d grown for 17 years had been chopped and his fashion sense had grown, making his own clothes and wearing significantly more designer. He’s now gained the reputation of being one of the industry’s  quirkiest dressed males.

We thought it’d be a great idea to show you how to get Will.I.Am’s ‘3008’ (The year he claims to be from) style straight from the high street.

Day two. Where do we begin?

The weather went right up the roof, taking the stage fashion into a whole new level. The performances shined across Olympic Park Avenue with a burst of SS13 trends – the celebrity’s brought their styling game with the heat. Which all appeared to become much more… competitive? Well we’ve summed up another top selection of the best dressed celebrities at Wireless day two; let us know your thoughts by voting at the end.

We first saw Miguel dressed in a western all-black outfit. It looks like he switched his mood up with the sun and bought the all-white trend onto the stage. His Versace shades certainly perfected his look.

Our first cover star from Issue one, Mikill Pane – dressed with a super dope style – his Air Jordan IV’s stood strong on the stage.

Tinie Tempah went for the sports luxe look, all-black leather, which is becoming a die for piece this year. He kept it street, on-trend and relaxed yet bold as his music.

Kendrick Lamar also came on trend, but kept it stress-free and enjoyed the vibe. With another all-white approach into an urban style – Miguel or Mr Lamar?

Jay Z took the main stage and closed Wireless like a BOSS. With his big bold carat gold chain and clean white shirt, he sure did come with a strong sense of style.
