After the success of collaborating with British Designer T.Lipop, River Island has announced that Joseph Turvey will be working on the spring summer 2014 collection. Joseph commenced his initial fashion studies with a BA in Fashion Design in 2010 and then went on to complete a MA in Menswear Design Technology at London College of Fashion. He has received much recognition for his work since graduating and was deemed “one to watch” at LFW’s Menswear Day and since then he has never looked back.
Turvey works with bold colour palettes and has an experimental take with fabric meaning that the collaboration is sure to be an exciting one. His unique style and illustration has garnered himself a deserved reputation as one of the most refreshing and innovative designers of his generation.
What we can look forward to see in the SS14 collection is a constant element of ‘playful pink’ infused with camouflage. Visually, it is a strong theme and plays off chic elements of luxe sportswear making a new take on 90s street wear culture.
Joseph Turvey says that “River Islands presence on the high street is incredible, they really push boundaries and are completely design led in their approach, so this seemed like a natural collaboration for me.” His starting point for the collection was the work of Jamel Shabazz, influencing the fabrications, colour and silhouettes in the collection.
To celebrate the launch River Island will be presenting a film at London Collections: Men in January. This will see RI team up with Joseph Turvey on a project directed by Alex Turvey as part of the Fash/On Film initiative.
The 16 piece collection will be available to buy in selected stores and online from the end of February 2014.

Before now Canadian recording rap artist Drake jumped into the rap industry well-grown and working his recognition as an actor off TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation as Jimmy, the high-school star basketball player. With his singing voice and his rhyming skills on his ever popular mixtapes Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone, Drake soon attracted listeners into fans to arise a new pedestal of respect for him as a genuine rap artist. Now the success of his third studio album, Nothing Was the Same and currently tour, Would You Like a Tour? supported by special guests such as Miguel, Jhene Aiko, Future and The Weeknd it would completely naïve of any one to not give Drake the credit he’s earned as one of our hard-hitting rappers out right now.
Back between 2006 and 2009 mixtape Drake fitted himself simple and casual; the most ultimate laid back you’d see during the times and rather than the Versace Versace he raps about now he adapted to his letterman cardigans, varsity jackets and ever so often the warm collar peacoat jacket look.
Following with releasing his first studio album, Thank Me Later and heavily affiliated with shining artists like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz and J.Cole, Drake stepped away from the Canadian guy next door, in music and in style to embracing more familiar brand names into his taste of clothing to the looks viewers are more familiar to see on a rising star rapper, comfy jeans and combats, hoodies and more varsity jackets and an array of sneaker selections.
As of his new record release and sophomore album Takecare the influence on his continuous success with music and triumph over the many jokes and rumours we see Drake as his new alter ego self known as seen on his instagram as Champagne Papi, this is perhaps his finest appearances throughout all the years we’ve had the rapper top charts. What he shows is the recording growth of not just his hair and beard but a steady growth out of expectation to an out right power trip of exclusive high fashion styling including his own line OVO, rare silk shirts, patterned textured knitwear, coloured leather trousers, velvet men’s slippers and outrageous priced gold accessories. Not forgetting how he masters the classic suit with a slap of GQ magazine covers to make this style journey full circle.

Contemporary, practical, multi-functional and mobile are just some of the adjectives that float around when it comes to the latest collaboration from Adidas with industrial designer Tom Dixon. The self taught designer has managed to fuse the world of design with the world of fashion.
A product of this collaboration is the neat and efficient duffle, messenger and bacpack bags he’s created that unzip and unfold in a systematic way to reveal a structured inside. Alongside that, we have lightweight olive trench coats with matching worker pants that contrast the olive with a olive accents but a bold blue main that matches the lining of the trench. The worker influence continues throughout with overalls that separate by a zip at the hip to create two separate pieces, a jacket and a pair of trousers.
The TD shoe and worker boot; which comes in black, grey and blue, are made with light fabrics with a rigged sole that runs throughout the entire assortment of footwear. Double pocketed t-shirts are reversible as well as the mint to dark blue shirt-jacket. In general, the entire collection is compact and resourceful. Ready for the Londoner on the go or any city dweller with a fast paced lifestyle.
Light, waterproof, dynamic and experimental are just a few more adjectives to help get an idea of the innovative designs. Check out the full collection below.
