PAUSE Trend: Trainers and Trousers – Does it work?

By April 10, 2014Fashion News, Sneakers, Style

Let’s travel back in time and return to Arholma, an island in Stockholms archipelago, with stormy weather and a granddad fishing, writing poems and managing the grand theatre in Stockholm. This is about his raincoat, it’s craftsmanship, material and details which was brought back to life honoring it’s classical cut.

The first 200 coats – Arholma Svart – were made and sold in Alexander Stutterheims apartment but after a couple of months, when the neighbours became suspicious of all the people in black coats, Alexander Stutterheim moved into a new workspace. Here he continued his experiments of rain and darkness producing new ideas and raincoats, now known as The Stutterheim Raincoats. It is both about being well dressed in bad weather and giving new life to granddad’s old coat.

You will find no Gore-Tex, no Velcro no mass production or (finally) any straps or strings stealing attention from design. The Arholma is one of our Stutterheim favorites here at PAUSE and to define it as a “art version” of the traditional raincoat might be very well deserved. The fact alone that it is a 100% wind and water proof raincoat worn by generations of Swedish fishermen was enough to caught our attention.

Today we find several styles such as Infernos & Beppe, Arvid & Lydia, Stockholm and Öland. You will find colors to match your wardrobe, mood and weather: Arholma black, Inferno red, Beppe Camo, Stockholm orange, Grass green, Burgundy and many more.

Usher At The Red Carpet For NBC’S ‘The Voice’ Event At The Sayers Club In Hollywood

Usher was seen sporting a casual military look last week at the red carpet event for ‘The Voice’ in The Sayers Club, Hollywood, headlining plenty of zips and pocket detailing. We see him wearing a gunmetal grey bomber jacket which features a fiery red leaf print, a zip-up fastening and zip pockets. He paired this with green pocketed combat trousers and black leather military style high top trainers. This mellow ensemble is what Usher is all about – we’re just surprised to see him without his sunglasses!

When we think of constants in fashion, the formal suit tends to be one of them. Yes, we may change the colour of a tie from time to time, or step away from the expected white shirt, but generally speaking suits are normally a foregone conclusion: white shirt, simple suit and polished shoes. Now however, opting for trainers as your chosen footwear to accompany your suit is an interesting way to go.

We at PAUSE love trainers so matching them up with trousers is an interesting combination. Obviously, this styling tip makes your look a lot more casual, however perhaps a little more eye-catching. Wearing standout footwear makes a one-colour suit come to life more.

Arguably the best way to rock this trend is to wear slim fitting trousers to show off your sneakers. Wearing straight leg trousers may hang over your trainers slightly and defeat the point of showing off your sneaks. Another styling tip is to have your trousers slightly raised, again to show off your trainers better. Celebrity and fashion icon Tinie Tempah is certainly taking these two styling tip into fruition and his looks certainly makes statements.

ttempah_gl_9jan13_rexfeatures_b_592x888Let’s face it, another benefit to this trainer and trouser combination is that trainers are a hell of a lot more comfy. It’s time to embrace the trainers and trousers combination? Here is some street style inspiration from both celebrities and fashionable men already working the trend.

Many will say it is a step too far, but what do you think? Should trainers be rocked with trousers?
