Last night marked a successful finish to London Fashion Week as the 14th annual Fashion Awareness Direct Final 2015 competition took place with emerging menswear designer Juniper Lai winning the show. The FAD competition final saw fashion students from different universities across the UK go head-to-head to win the £1000 prize to take home. London College of Fashion student Juniper Lai was one of the designers who stood out on the runway and produced a collection that had everyone’s phone ready to snap the well constructed garments. Her collection translated the ‘Physics Meets Fashion’ brief with an eye-watching range of garments built with an oversized masculine silhouette, her fabrications revolved around 3D sintering technology, which is rarely done. The use of the 3D printing method was used with lasers to direct points of a 3D structure to bind the material in areas to create a solid shape. Crisp white shirts were teamed with wide circular cut, cobalt blue dip dye shorts with ruched waist bands in a contrasting colour palette of monochrome. Juniper Lai took a technological approach to the brief and completed her collection with iconic hats which was inspired by the film The Holy Mountains.

We asked Juniper Lai what is her plans next after winning FAD competition, “I want to see what press comes out of this, whether I will get any more funding, if I do I will be quite happy to start my own thing. If not, I would also like to work for a fashion house, going abroad to Paris or New York.”
