Italian luxury label Gucci presents new the Cruise collection
The designer of the moment seems to be Gucci’s new creative director Alessandro Michele who assumed the role after his predecessor – whom he was second in command to – Frida Giannini left just before she presented her supposed last collection. In hindsight one can say the events that led to Giannini’s exit and Michele’s entry were a series of fortunate events as it’s seen the vibe and the culture of the brand depart from it’s previous sexy symbol into a simpler bohemian type of cool.
For it’s cruise 16 show, which is usually reserved for its womens collections, Michele took the chance to cement the new Gucci man in the minds of the press and consumers. The new Gucci man is sensual and emotional. He’s swapped his octane sexiness for a mysterious, weird & bookish gentleman who is at home whether he’s in St Tropez or Brooklyn.
Nerdy glasses were back in full force, and the collection had a gender-less air. The purposely ill fitting suits look good on a boy or girl. The shirts were also back in silk and tie fronts/bows again reinstating the creative directors mandate.
‘I’m inspired by a lot of things – from the street, antiques, vintage wardrobes. It’s impossible to explain the exact point of inspiration. It’s about being free to love, free to express, free to show who you are through the way you dress’ – Alessandro Michele
