A fusion of clean lines and sharp silhouettes with frayed hems and creased fabrics, Matthew Miller’s Spring/Summer 2016 Collection is impelled by excessive bureaucratic regulation and retro-futurism. His ‘Conform/control/constrict’ state of mind during the design process is reflected through the collection, and also correlates with the business uniforms of red tape practitioners; tailored blazers, order drainpipe trousers, and white shirts. His frustration with the constraints of modern day living is portrayed through his use of distressed and creased linens, but especially through his use of clashing fabrics. A red spray-paint mark embellishes the back of suits and shirts, a tongue-in-cheek contrast to what it is otherwise an achromatic, formal line.
