PAUSE EATS: Smiths of Smithfield

By August 17, 2018Lifestyle, Restaurant

Set on the outskirts of the capital’s financial district lies newly refurbished Smiths of Smithfield. Spread over four floors in a grade II listed building, it’s a location suitable for a multitude of occasions with each floor offering you a truly distinctive dining experience. From the ground floor cafe and bar which offers all-day dining and classic pub dishes, to the ‘No.3’ restaurant and terrace providing an array of more sophisticated choices as well as stunning views across the city.

We tried ‘The Grill’ on the second floor. With its contemporary design boasting blasted brickwork and leather seating, it’s best described as classy with a laid-back atmosphere. In contrast to the other floors ‘The Grill’ focuses on its prime cuts of meat and locally sourced produce which provide the backbone for its menu of classic British dishes.

Their starters include delectable ‘Little Bird Smoked Salmon’, ‘Crispy Honey Ribs’ and ‘Charred Squid’, following from which you can treat yourself to a wide range of sublime mains ranging from 28 day aged beef (fillet, sirloin or ribeye), their ultimate mixed grill packed with lamb chops, butchers sausages and pork loin or even fish dishes such as the day boat fish and traditional fish and chips that comes with a boiled egg tartare sauce and mushy peas.

With their menu featuring specialist red and white wines and suggestions from Sommeliers, our dining experience in this unique eatery was second to none. If wine isn’t your tipple they also have a range of beer and spirits to choose from.

If you have room left for dessert tuck into their scrumptious sticky toffee pudding or their quintessentially British cheese board that will keep you and your taste buds wanting more. Great food, great wine and great staff? Tick.

To top off our evening at Smiths we were taken up to the spacious terrace on the third floor. Situated within the No.3 restaurant it features a large outdoor area and a more formal feel. With wonderful views and an expansive list of alcoholic beverages including thirst-quenching cocktails, we could not have been more impressed with this venue that truly offers something for everyone.
