ASICS taps New York-based label AWAKE and Creative Director, Angelo Baque for a new collaborative sneaker.
Inspired by Baque’s experiences in New York and Paris respectively, the new ASICS Gel-Kayano 5 360 blends the advanced sole of the GEL-Quantum 360 with the upper of the popular GEL-Kayano 5 OG. With two distinct colourways, the hybrid sneakers appear in a Silver and Green colourway, a call back to the Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York, while the Black and Gold iteration references the Bacque’s nighttime strolls through the streets of Paris.
Speaking on the sneaker collaboration, AWAKE creative director, Angelo Baque said “Words can’t explain how long I’ve waited to design my own sneaker. I don’t know how to express how big of a deal this is to me. The design and inspiration comes from going to Flushing Meadow Park as a kid and always being fascinated by the Unisphere and then as an adult, I started coming to Paris and loved walking around at night in the golden lit streets. During the day watching all the young North and West African youth appropriate ASICS to their wardrobe, rocking tracksuits with ASICS on their feet. Paris has a special place in my heart and is one of the only cities in the world that feels like NYC.”
