Shortly after stepping into the role as the new Creative Director of the French powerhouse, Matthew M. Williams has delivered his first collection Givenchy. Designed during the pandemic, the collection sees the utilization of Givenchy’s archives that points to the past, present and future.
“You find the pieces of the puzzle for a collection, building it from symbols and signs, but never forgetting the reality of the person who will wear it and bring it to life. The women and men should be powerful and effortless, equal and joyful, a reflection of who they really are – only more so. It’s about finding the humanity in luxury.” explains the Alyx founder.
Revealed via a look book shot by artist Heji Shin, the collection explores Williams’ signature utilitarian aesthetic, fused with the luxury of Givenchy. “A sampler of what is to come,” according to the collection notes, it delves into Givenchy through a stream of consciousness for Williams.
Fast forward to this weekend and the brand launched a social media lookbook campaign, starring Kim Kardashian, Laura Dern and many more. Offerings from the designer include cotton Ottoman for both genders in outerwear, technical taffeta in tailoring and structured jerseys. Double-breasted suits arrive in shades of ivory and grey, alongside a host of was really streetwear-inspired pieces – including platform pool slides, caps and wedge-soled sneakers.
