Arriving this Week.
Long-time collaborators Rick Owens and Dr. Martens have joined up for another forward-thinking footwear collaboration, taking on the famous DM 1460 and 1918 boots.
Having long had a collaborative relationship together, which saw the release of various popular silhouettes like the extreme-lace 1460 Bex Platform boot and 1461 Bex Derby shoes, high-fashion brutalist-grunge brand Rick Owens and heritage footwear brand Dr. Martens have given fashion fans what they wanted with yet another stellar capsule collection.
This time around, the duo have stepped out with two new iterations of the 1460 and 1918 boots, which arrive in contrasting black and white colourways. Putting forward a typically Rick-like statement, the 1918 boot dons an 18-eyelet calf-height style as well as boasting a “Platinum” coloured hair outer leather composition, with additional features including silver-tone eyelets, “Pearl” laces- which stretch up the extended tongue- and Dr. Martens’ iconic black chunky sole and yellow stitching. Alternatively, the black 1460 boot takes more of a lowkey approach, donning a classic “Lunar” leather composition, thick “Pearl” laces and widened eyelets, in addition to a thickened and heightened Dr. Martens sole, which similarly rocks the brand’s classic yellow stitching. Both pairs arrive with collaborative Rick Owens x Dr. Martens branding on the inside of the boots, whilst robust metal side-zips complete the central standouts from both new creations.
In a statement made about the collaboration, Rick Owens stated:
“when i was a teen and becoming physically aware, i saw how a tightly laced ankle leading to a broad, solidly planted foot had a simple, modest, industrial masculinity – almost like a corset between a muscled calf and a sturdy foot that acted as a stoic ballast. dm’s exemplified this best. i saw them on all the guys flying through the air at the shows i went to then… fear… black flag… the screamers… alien sex fiend… dr. martens became a symbol of a raw and sweaty vitality that i thought i might be able to pull off… and for a minute, i think i did… coming full circle to partner with dr. martens 40 years later leads me to lacing them with pearl-colored cotton laces in a geometric pattern that i use often as a symbol of our eternal collective search for rational order; signs of hope and an affectionate blessing on the perpetual recklessness of youth.”
The latest release from Rick Owens x Dr. Martens will drop on October 14th via the Dr. Martens and Rick Owens websites. Check out imagery below.
