Can the two rappers really say it's 'Her Loss' now?
Last week, Drake and 21 Savage sent the internet into a frenzy thanks to the release of their collaborative album, ‘Her Loss’. To promote the album, the rap duo did a plethora of publicity stunts that were spoofs of a NPR Tiny Desk concert, an SNL music performance and a COLOURS Studio video. Amongst those stunts was a fake Vogue cover (a nod to his hit song, Jimmy Cooks, with 21 Savage that featured the lyrics “don’t tell me that you model, if you ain’t been in Vogue”) that the Canadian artist uploaded on a now-deleted Instagram post, thanking Anna Wintour in the caption and announcing that the magazines will be available at newsstands the following day, leading fans and news outlets to believe that this was an authentic cover.
Now, it has been revealed by Fashion Law that Vogue’s mother company Conde Nast will be filing a lawsuit against Drake and 21 Savage, deeming the stunt as misleading and a violation of intellectual property and, as a result, will seek damages. The mass media company’s approach differs greatly from the other establishments that were also parodied by the two artists, embracing their inclusion into what turned out to be a monumental album rollout.
We will have to wait and see how the two Grammy-winning artists will handle the situation. Stay tuned for more on this matter.
