adidas & Yohji Yamamoto Reunite Once Again for Celebratory Y-3 Atelier Division

By March 2, 2023Fashion News

Celebrating their 20th Anniversary.

In recognition of their recently passed 20th anniversary, longtime collaborative partners adidas and Yohji Yamamoto are primed to introduce Y-3 Atelier, deemed “a new expression for the Y-3 label centered on elevated craftsmanship and innovative design.”

Constantly paving new lanes of expression, the two-decade old collaboration continues rolling on through as adidas x Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 step forward with the latter’s rebellious outlook whilst providing the most crystal clear version of Y-3’s vision yet. Prioritising a “craft focused creation process”, this effort from Y-3 Atelier draws on “Monozukuri”, the Japanese phrase for “making things”, and focuses itself on utilising and reinterpreting patterns that were previously used on one-of-a-kind Yohji Yamamoto runway pieces, bringing Y-3 closer to the designer’s own brand. Included in this debut collection, Y-3 Atelier reinterprets a range of typical silhouettes such as track tops, jackets, dresses, skirts, pants and more, with custom Three Stripes adding that distinct adidas touch.

Captured by Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama, the campaign imagery for Y-3 Atelier’s debut collection was snapped at the world-renowned Shibuya restaurant – Narukiyo Izakaya. Embracing the relentlessly combative nature of Y-3, the latest set of imagery features models adorned in select Y-3 Atelier garments and depicts the brand’s dedicated affection for a monochromatic colour palette.

The Y-3 Atelier collection is set to launch exclusively at a pop-up retail and exhibition space in Paris hosted by SSENSE on March 2nd.
