PAUSE Picks: Top Sneaker Releases of the Week

One of this week’s freshest pairs are the long-awaited JJJJound x Salomon XT-WINGS 2, with the two outfits utilising a striking blue and white colour palette for their debut appearance. Splitting opinions in the sneaker world, this collaborative effort between JJJJound and Salomon keeps sneaker heads on their toes as a return to ‘quiet’ collaborations makes its claim on the fashion world, with this distinctly minimal pair boasting signature Salomon branding on the tongue and heel and JJJJound inside heel lettering, adding an ever so subtle flex to the pair. The power of some good branding can never be underestimated.

Coming in hot with another collaborative effort, Supreme and Vans have reignited their longstanding friendship with a new dose of vibrantly designed sneakers, with this Dollar Skate Grosso Mid being the pick of the bunch. Bringing in an ankle-protecting high-top shape, this brash pair feature a flashy one dollar design across the canvas upper and a vibrant baby pink suede working alongside it, whilst a stark black vulcanised waffle outsole, a black leather lining and insole, as well as an embroidered Supreme logo on the rear make this pair distinctly unique. Taking neutral all the way to the bank are ASICS, who have unsurprisingly come out with yet another summer stunner for this SS23′ period, debuting a ‘Cream’ iteration of the now iconic Gel-NYC silhouette. The sporty-come-casual pair meshes the technical approach of ASICS with the required tropes of an everyday streetwear staple sneaker, with some key features including a pre-aged tonal cream and grey upper – which is inspired by the GEL-NIMBUS 3 and MC-PLUS V shoes – as well as GEL-CUMULUS 16 cooling technology, classic lace closure, rear foot and forefoot GEL technology, in addition to a typical rubber outsole. What’s not to like?

A new release? No. A timeless release? Most definitely. YEEZY’s remaining stock is being sold off, much to the delight of the many Ye and YEEZY fans around the world. With this YEEZY 500 ‘Utility Black’, you get the best of YEEZY, with the iconic outfit channeling their timeless boot material composition alongside the low-lying shape of traditional YEEZY efforts, such as the 700 silhouette. This washed black re-release utilises the typical composition of abstract suede working alongside a textured raised midsole unit, whilst thin minimalist laces and breathable mesh material make this pair just as much of a ‘must cop’ as the day they originally released back in 2018. Completing the final five from PAUSE’s picks this week are Salomon once again who have continued the roll-out of their ACS Pro silhouette with this standout ‘Green Olive’ iteration. Moving away from the obviously striking colour scheme, the easy-to-cop pair boast substance as well as style, with signature Agile Chassis System technology and a robust Kurim structure – which joins the mesh upper with the classic textile overlays and a sturdy cage on the sides to ensure maximum protection – making the cut. Lastly, any Salomon effort wouldn’t be complete without the brand’s patent Quicklace system and EnergyCell midsole , underlining the brand’s hiking roots and affection for comfort-centric footwear.
